About the company
SE “USIE IZOTOP” is a state-owned enterprise for the supply of radioisotope products and equipment that uses radioactive materials, founded in 1962. The company provides support for the managing of radioactive materials at all stages of their life cycle.
In accordance with the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 179 dated February 16, 2024, “On making changes to the list of state-owned objects of strategic importance for the economy and security of the state”, SE “USIE IZOTOP” was recognized as an enterprise of strategic importance.
The State Registry of Sources of Ionizing Radiation and Individual Exposure Doses, the only state system of accounting and control of sources of ionizing radiation and individual exposure doses located in Ukraine, operates as a separate structural unit at the SE “USIE IZOTOP” in accordance with the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 1141 dated November 18, 2020.
SE “USIE IZOTOP” MISSION
Safety, security, accuracy, and professionalism in managing radioactive materials to meet the needs of Ukrainian consumers in a quality and efficient manner.
Consumers of the products and services of SE “USIE IZOTOP” are enterprises of strategic importance for the economy and security of the state, enterprises of critical infrastructure, industrial and energy companies, health care institutions of various subordinates (multidisciplinary medical, specialized oncological, private, research institutes subordinated to Ministry of Health of Ukraine, National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine and National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and others).
AREAS OF ACTIVITY
Main areas of activity:
- supply and sale of radiopharmaceuticals for diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases, scientific research in medicine and biology,
- supply of all types of sources of ionizing radiation for medical (radiotherapy) and industrial purposes,
- supply of unsealed and sealed radiation sources for laboratory and scientific research,
- provision of services for recharging, installation and dismantling of all types of radioisotope equipment for medical, industrial, and other purposes,
- transportation (import, export, transit) of hazardous goods of Сlass 7,
- all types of management of radiation sources, including temporary storage and transfer for disposal to specialized companies for the management of radioactive waste.
MATERIAL AND TECHNICAL SUPPORT
SE “USIE IZOTOP” has created its own infrastructure for safe and high-quality management of radioactive materials, which includes:
- production complex located at a distance from a residential area,
- a trench-type storage facility for isotope products for temporary storage of radioactive materials and sources of ionizing radiation,
- hot cells,
- physical protection system,
- vehicles specially equipped in accordance with the requirements of the Rules for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material (PBPRM-2020), and which meet the requirements set for the transportation of hazardous goods of Class 7.
LICENSES AND PERMITS
SE “USIE IZOTOP” has all the necessary licenses and permits:
- transportation of radioactive materials (issued by the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspection of Ukraine);
- use of radiation sources (incl. storage of nuclear material) (issued by the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine),
- transportation (incl. internationally) of passengers, hazardous cargoes and waste by road transport (issued by State Service of Ukraine for Transport Safety),
- transportation of radioactive sources by road transport on the territory of Poland (issued by the State Atomic Energy Agency of Poland),
- authorization to perform special work according to the list of positions (issued by the Security Service of Ukraine),
- work with radiation sources on the territory of Ukraine (issued by the Main Department of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection in Kyiv region),
IRS Measurement Laboratory complies with the requirements of DSTU ISO10012:2005 (issued by SE “Kyivoblstandartmetrology”).
INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION
SE “USIE IZOTOP” is a key partner (contractor and recipient) of international technical assistance projects of the U.S. Government through the U.S. Department of Energy “Enhancing the Security of Ukraine’s Disused Sources of Ionizing Radiation”, “Enhancing the Security of Ukraine’s Sources of Ionizing Radiation”, which are registered in accordance with the CMU Resolution No. 153 dated February 15, 2002, and cooperates with the IAEA to ensure the highest standards in nuclear and radiation safety, safeguards and improvement of the physical protection system at the enterprise.
