📅 From 18 to 22 August 2025, a Technical Exchange on the Management of Disused Radioactive sources was held in San Antonio (Texas, United States of America) at the Southwest Research Institute (SwRI) with the participation of representatives of SE “USIE IZOTOP” and the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine.
🤝 The event was supported by the Office of Radiological Security of the National Nuclear Security Administration of the U.S. Department of Energy (ORS/NNSA).
🇺🇸 The U.S. side was represented by officials of ORS/NNSA, U.S. National Laboratories and technical specialists of the SwRI Institute.
⚛️ The Technical Exchange discussed issues related to safe and secure management of radioactive sources – from regulatory control and planning to practical aspects of removal, transportation, conditioning and storage in Ukraine and the USA. The Ukrainian side made several presentations in which it shared its successful experience in performing work under martial law.
🏭 As part of the event, a technical tour of the SwRI infrastructure facilities was held, during which the participants visited the hot cells, container-type storage facility for sources, warehouses of containers and specialized vehicles, and took part in practical training on search of sources using modern equipment and radiation monitoring devices.
🔗 The parties agreed to continue close technical cooperation and involve specialists of SE “USIE IZOTOP” as experts and speakers in the future.
🙏 We thank our American partners for their openness, active constructive dialogue at the expert level and sharing practical experience and knowledge.
